Directors, Officers, and Trustees Liability
An important concern for all healthcare entities is the financial protection
of its directors, trustees, officers, employees, and volunteers.
Donors, employees, recipients of service, vendors, investors, competitors,
and even the government may bring legal action against organizations and
their boards of directors. Litigation of this sort lasts for many
years, becoming a continuous financial drain on the organization. If
an organization cannot indemnify its directors, officers, or employees,
either because of the litigation or as a result of the organization's
insolvency, the ensuing financial burden can become the personal
responsibility of the individuals involved.
ProCon provides the necessary coverages to protect the hospital through a
Directors, Officers, and Trustees Liability policy (D&O). ProCon's D&O
program is written with one of the largest commercial companies with a
specialty in insuring healthcare entities. |

Workers' Compensation
ProCon is
the exclusive broker for Hospital Association Team (HAT). HAT is a
multiple employer trust arrangement, incorporated by hospitals for
hospitals. This program is designed only for Missouri hospitals so as
to escape the losses and additional expenses shared by other types of
businesses, as in the standard market. It also allows the hospital to
avoid the ups and downs in pricing and acceptability associated with
business cycles in the standard workers' compensation market. With
lower expenses and investment income returned to the Trust, hospitals
benefit from lower premiums over the long run. ProCon can also access
the commercial market to provide coverage for hospitals on a guaranteed cost
basis with Missouri employers and for hospitals seeking self insurance
status. |

CRIME, FIDUCIARY, AND KIDNAP AND RANSOM
Employee dishonesty coverage is the most used coverage under the crime
policy. Large losses may arise out of accounting and financial
departments when proper checks and balances are not employed. The
crime policy also protects against theft from customer premises; money and
securities stolen from the hospital including while in transit; forgery or alteration of
covered instruments; loss from counterfeit papers and money orders; loss due
to computer fraud and fund transfer. |

AUTO AND AMBULANCE LIABILITY
All hospitals have an auto exposure even if they don't own autos or
ambulances. The exposure can arise from employees using their personal
vehicle in the business of the hospital such as making bank deposits or
visiting a customer or vendor. An employee renting a vehicle on
hospital business also gives rise to an auto exposure. |
